zigged when I should've zagged

So we went on our little annual road trip to Ballarat, as we do most Easter's, and I had a smug thought.

Everyone who knows about smug thoughts knows that they are as crafty as a leprechaun, and as all seeing as karma.

(ever heard the expression "too big for your boots"?)

Happily knitting away on my second Embossed Leaves lace sock, chat chat chat (because, you realise, I am smug), thinking to myself, "I'm wearing these home on Monday, aren't I a clever clogs?"

Everyone is making admiring murmurs, asking questions as to degree of difficulty, all in all, a general ego-stroke for me, you know what I mean?

I should have known then and there.

Finish a repeat, realise it must be the last one before I start the toe, try the sock on...in front of everyone.

And there it is.

Staring right at me, the smack across the ears the universe had been dying to send me all weekend...

Right back during the gusset, I had zigged a leaf left, instead of zagging it right.

I valiantly tried to frog back to the offending leaf, but alas due to the yo's and decreases, no luck, it had to come back to the cuff.

I'm so mad with myself I could spit!

very very frustrating - we've all been there - nothing wrong with a little bit of self congratulations - it's just that that is invariably the time when focus is lost and disaster arrives! Hope you're back to crusing along.

PS - just to illustrate the point, it was me who deleted the comment - once posted I saw a stupid spelling mistake _ I could blame the distraction of a screaming child on my lap that I'm trying to breast feed, but it could just be my own stupid fault (latter more likely)

Ah, the Knitting Goddess can never resist the opportunity to smack us down, can she? Trust me, we've all been there. You are far from alone.

Hmm, I had a similar experience myself last weekend. I thought I could deal with it and had thoughts of pretending it was a deliberate attempt to make an imperfection a la the Japanese tradition of wabi sabi, but in the end, I had to frog!

Love your blog by the way!

Argh, did that feel like instant karma? Which I don't really believe in, but sometimes...
About the 'Knitscene': In a moment of weakness I actually ordered it online from the IK website. I think it probably cost me around $AU15 which is exxey for a mag, but I just really liked Norah Gaughan's pattern so much I had to have it. That's the problem with the internet..some things are just tooo easy ;)
