grrrr

you remember that lovely cardigan I was working on for my friend's babe in Scotland?

well....this, people, is why you should always, ALWAYS ...

check the friggin' dyelots.

I knitted on the bands (using the new ball) at our knitting group, so didn't really take much notice until I got home.  At first I thought it was just the grain of the knitting playing with the light...

can everyone say "delusional"?  De-loo-sheeon-al

I grabbed the sleeve, which had already been knit with the new ball and it didn't take much to realise this was no play of light.

So now I am trying to work out how to a) get a gift to my friend's baby, who has already been born nigh on 7 days now, btw; and b) fix this without it looking like a disaster zone?

Help, anyone?!

Oh Noes!
But have you done the other sleeve yet? If not, can you do it in the new ball too, because then it will just look like you meant to have different tones of the same colour? Maybe?

oh crap. that's shocking! I'd take RoseRed's advice...

And in Bendigo, even though it'll be well past this event, I'll buy a consoling drink. It's not that far away!

Can you get more of the right dyelot??? Maybe stalk some people on Rav who have it stashed? I've been caught out by that before and it is such a horrible feeling. I hope you find a solution that works for you.

Yes, I reckon if both sleeves and the neckband are that colour, you can pretend it was a subtle work of extraordinary colour knowledge.

Oh bugger. I'd probably go with what Kate said, just pretend it's supposed to be like that.

Or dip-dye the whole thing so it goes from light to dark at the bottom? Risky, but could be great if it worked out.

Oh no! I've no advice save for fact I'd wear a jumper or cardi with different sleeves to the front and back any day. As long as the two sleeves matched, though. To me it still looks like a beautiful gift to receive and you are super talented with them needles.

oh man, you know i feel your pain. after my initial gasp of horror, i noticed the neck band and thought it matched, so two sleeves like that might be ok? it looks so lovely otherwise...i reckon you could get away with it....

Could you do a moss stitch row like down near the cuffs then a couple of rows to 'seam' with before the join? This should take away from the immediate contrast. And seriously - she will be so thrilled with the gift anyway she wont care!! xxx kat.

Over dye the whole garment with dark purple or charcoal grey? (I over dye everything)
