Meditation

I can't help myself.

As soon as one project gets close to completion, I am compelled to cast on another, and subsequently my interest in the close-to-finished one wanes...

My Spiral Boot socks are sooo close to being finished it isn't funny (seriously, one night of applying myself and they'd be done!), but do I finish them off?

No.

I cast on an intricate lace shawl instead.

I have had my eye on this pattern for a while now, but something has kept me from casting on.

I knew I didn't like the garter stitch border - I think it's too clunky for the lace work - and I have been patiently, quietly, searching for an alternative border. Finally, this week I felt I had come across the perfect one. It was enough like the candle flame motif to compliment it, but it also reminded me loosely of a lotus flower. As I am going to be using this shawl during both meditation and pranayamas in my yoga practice, I want to involve relevant motifs, so I felt good about both of these interpretations. You can't really see it yet, but trust me, it's lovely!

The wool has been purchased for this project for a long time - The Knittery's 2ply lace merino, colourway: Berry Bliss. The pattern calls for fingering weight, but I wanted the lace to be lighter so have instead gone with the 2ply and only slightly smaller needles (3.25mm rather than the recommended 3.50mm)
:
This colourway is so divine. There are all shades of berry pinks, with little flashes of taupe and mulberry greys. I could go on about it all night, but will spare you! It's enough to say I am enjoying each row, eagerly watching the colours flow as I stitch away...

Now if only I can finish my socks (oh yeah, and that top), I'll be able to sit down in peace and knit my shawl...

At least until it nears completion, anyway!

I love watching the colours change in perfectly dyed yarn - makes the knitting so much more of a pleasure than it already was. This sounds (and looks) divine so far.

Looks great! I, too, love working with variegated yarns- the colour changes keep me enthralled, for some reason.

That's a lovely lace pattern. I hadn't seen it before. We're still having boot whether so you might finish those lovely boot socks afterall. And I can't wait to see your vest, too!

Mmm lacey goodness! The colorway *is* blissful, and I can't wait to see your alternate edging.
