Wallis

after a lengthy delay between casting off and seaming up, my Wallis is finally finished and ready for wear...

For a long time, I wore black. Black pants, black skirts, black tops, black shirts, black jumpers. "Oh, that's nice", I'd say; "Does it come in black?"...

Over the last few years (coincidentally timed with a big resurgence of my knitting), I've slowly been adding some colour, and it's not all bad. I started with some red...then a little green...went quickly back to grey...but then some purple crept in...

However the yarn I chose for my Wallis was a big leap out of the box for my (I'm still unsure what possessed me?).

It's Bendigo Woollen Mill's 8ply cotton in "Mango", and by the time I'd finished knitting, it was apparent that it was a little too sorbet for me. So, once seamed, I gave it a dip in a tea bath for 1/2 an hour. It's just taken the edge off nicely, muddied up the colour to something I'd wear more easily. It's still a bit of a stretch though, and I feel it will probably remain part of my work wardrobe rather than an everyday top. It's a good weight for the office, and I'm not really too bothered about what I wear to work.

I think I'll venture back to my black for a while, though - colour can be a bit scary!

I've been exactly the same - all black for such a long time and now I'm branching out into more colour - and I like it!

The tea bath was a really good idea - it looks so great on you!

I love it - from what I can see of your face and hair in the photo I'd say that the colour really suits you. I love the tea bath idea - it's a gorgeous pink, not too girly and saccharine!

Wallis looks great on you! I'm intrigued by the tea bath dyeing, did you put it in a mixture of tea and vinegar?

That is so freaking inspired - a tea bath! I'm going to remember that. Can you write up how you did that? Like, how much tea, how much water etc? Fabulous work!

Oooh, I can see you've got plenty of comments re the tea bath. Good idea. I like the finish. It looks like something from the late 1930s or 1940s. It's glam. I like it.

Wallis is wonderful. I also stay away from the pastels but this looks simply elegant on you. Brava!

Heh. Color *is* scary. But I'm glad you were brave and stepped outside your comfort zone, because your Wallis is lovely. Paired with the feminine, 40s styling of the sweater, the color really works on ya. I know, I can feel you squirming from here...but think: it will look great with a slim black skirt!
