another convert to the fold...

during this last week of the everlasting school holidays, Lily came to me in a search for "something to do".

Naturally, my ideas were "boring".

So when she looked at me and said; "I know, I could make a wristband - can you teach me to knit?", I managed to keep a calm demeanour as I replied; "Sure, I suppose I could do that", knowing that if I showed even the slightest bit of enthusiasm, the idea would be deemed "boring"!

I cast on using 5mm *glitter* needles and some pink variegated from the stash. The first row, she sat in front of me and worked the yarn. The second row she worked the needles. The third row she was flying along on her own.

I had to leave the room because my maternal pride was threatening to suffocate us ;)

From the hallway I could hear her singing "I'm knitting, I'm knitting, I learned to knit today", pleased as punch with herself, as well she should be.

She's made three wristbands since last night - one each for herself and her two best friends. As she was working on the third she said; "I can see how this gets addictive, Mum"

yes, baby. I've hooked you up for life.

What a wonderful Momma to have the patience to teach. Saw this link on Meet Me at Mikes.

How fantastic! And good for you for keeping your enthusiasm under wraps - sounds like by far the best strategy...

So true, knitting is so addictive. I am obsessed with knitting beanies, people ask me if I knit anything else and I say, "well, I can... but who doesn't like a beanie?"

Nice work on keeping the enthusiasm until the end. That must have killed you!

Way to go! It must've been the glitter needles. (!) Sounds like Lily's a natural, which is super cool.

Kylie, what have you done! Will Lily's life every be the same again? I can picture you both in years to come enjoying your own family knitting club.

Glitter needles? Maybe that's what I need to coax Kaela back. Well done!
