sweet sixteen

My niece turned sweet sixteen this week.

Each night over the past two weeks, I have been quietly making yo-yo's and searching through my button collection for little treasures, so I could sew her a new bag to hang on the back of her wheelchair. (you might remember the last one I made her, a few years ago - scroll down to the cherries)

I've learned since that first bag - the shape needed to be more "horizontal" and the handles needed to be longer, so as to comfortably fit over the chair's handles. I also wanted this one to be a bit more sophisticated, but still happy and bright - just like her :)

what better match than denim and carnival stripes?

and of course, it had to have her signature "J" on it!

I thought we could all use a little brightness and cheer after the terrible events of last week.

Happy birthday to your niece! Your gift is the perfect sweet to celebrate the day.

Sososo sorry about the fires. My heart goes out to all the people and animals displaced. *big hugs*
