cabling along...

There's been more finishing on gift knitting here this week, so sorry, but sneak peeks only.

For someone who doesn't really like cabling, there seems to have been a lot of it on the sticks lately. I've always liked the look of cables, but really dislike the interruption they cause to my knitting groove. These two treated me quite fairly though - a cable row only every 6 rounds is quite within my limits!

and the first quarter of the Granny-a-day blanket for Lily is sewn together. Now that's one tedious job, let me tell you!! 25 granny squares carefully placed to complement it's neighbours, then all those fiddly ends to be weaved and snipped...

A while back, Lily mentioned that she had actually thought I was making her a Granny-goes-round blanket, like the ones I have. After sewing these up, I made her an offer. I'll put one more row of individual Grannies around this square, then I'll start crocheting round the outside, making a beautiful border for the centrepiece of the squares I've already made.

sound like a good compromise?

I thought so!

I love cables!! But especially ones that are only every 6 rows!

I also think the compromise on the granny blanket is perfect!

I've been cabling a bit lately too, since learning the no-cable-needle trick (which is awesome).
Lily's a lucky girl, that's going to be one beautiful blanket!

Lovely cabling. I've been cabling too, I can't do the No Needle cabling but there were 2 stitch cables, not twists, and I can do those without a needle. Yay!!
Great squares and I think that's an excellent compromise!!

The cables are gorgeous, I'm with you on the breaking the flow so once every 6 rows isn't too bad!

The compromise on the granny square blanket sounds like it will make an interesting and individual blanket.

Sounds like a good compromise to me, and it also sounds like it will look amazing! Your cables are looking good too, not my favourite thing to do either!
