fancy
one gentleman's fancy down, one more to go.
I'm lacking a little enthusiasm for this project, and dread falling into my old "second-sock" syndrome...
I think I sat on this wool too long and it became precious, and like Daddy's only daughter searching for a beau, nothing will now be good enough for it.
I do like the simplicity of the "brick" pattern. It highlights the colours well, but should I have chosen something more fancy?
Because of the modifications I had to make to bring the original pattern down from a man's sock to a women's size, I struggled with the decreasing at the toe, resulting in a somewhat clunky finish. On, they look fine, but off, they are quite square. I'm trying to tell myself it doesn't matter - they are a functional item that fits nicely, but my inner perfectionist is mildly disappointed that I didn't work out all those details earlier.
One lives and learns (apparently). Perhaps one day I'll remember to read that memo before I start.
I've also been secretly knitting away on a little swap item. The Aussie Tea Cosy Swap is proving to be a hill of fun, and I am hoping my pal loves what I've come up with.
Here's a quick peak...
I have also submitted another article for mixtape, which goes on sale Nov. 1. Check it out if you get a chance - Justine and Nicholla have done an awesome job getting this project off the ground, and have already had some good media coverage, including Frankie and The Age A2. I will let them tell you all about it here...
Hope you're all having a fabulous week - I'm on leave again, so it's lots of rest and recuperation over here, and hopefully some very productive knitting!!

I think the fancy sock is just fancy enough for the pretty pretty yarn - but I know what you mean about knitting it - I found it a bit of a chore (which is crazy, I've knitted more detailed patterns than that!). I love the square toe - mine have very pointy toes!
And the tea cosy - lovely!!
Oh, I lovelovelove those socks. I've had my eye on that pattern for a while now. Must. Finish Hedera. First.
Love the fancy (or not so fancy, just perfect) sock. Great to meet you the other week at s'n'b too!
I think that yarn is gorgeous in that pattern - just beautiful!
I love your Fancy sock just as it is. So often color variegation fights with or takes over a pattern (an example of what I call "tacky, yet overstated"), but you've done a great job pairing the two together. So bust on through that SSS so you can wear your lovely new socks! (listen to me, being all bossy...sorry)
Purple tea cozy! *squee*
Feel better soon. xo
I like it quite a bit. One of the hurdles for me in knitting anything out of that book is that all my favorite patterns are sized for men and so far I've been too lazy to do the math. But your sock just may inspire me!
PS I prefer squarer toes myself anyway.
I kn ow what you mean about the whole precious thing. The sock looks really nice though and not square at all!!
Nice tea cosy sneak peek!!!
