fancy that

They're done, and I love them!

It seems that if you actually finish something before you critique it, the end is it's own reward.

I love the colourway (Passionfruit) and the yarn (The Knittery 4ply: Sock Merino) and the pattern (Gentleman's Fancy Sock: Nancy Bush Knitting Vintage Socks - with modifications)
I did rip out the first toe and took it smaller to give a less square toe, as I had previously been concerned about - and I love it, too!

I'm so glad I went through to the end with these - thanks to everyone who commented and reassured me about the pattern/colourway choice - they are good together, you guys are so wise! The pattern has just enough detail to be interesting without detracting from the rich dye job of the yarn, which in turn, really does compliment the brick pattern...

This last photo is probably the most accurate colour depiction, but the others showed off the stitch detail better, so I went with a little of both...

As a persistence reward for persevering with this project, I also indulged in a little early birthday present to myself.
Knitty's 2008 calender is in-store now, and it's very sweet. I got last years' edition and have really enjoyed the knitting images over the months - so much more than some crap floral or the like that are usually on offer. I found the actual calender part gave me enough room to write all my little reminders and important date too, so all in all, a good combination of form and function and I'm happy to go back this year for more!

Have a lovely weekend everyone. Happy knitting!

Handsome socks. You did a great job marrying yarn with pattern, and your toes look so happy in them.

Happy weekend to you, too!

If the calendar is a marriage of form + function then these are a marriage of yarn + pattern.
So glad you're happy with them

What beautiful socks. The colour is perfect for the stitch pattern. They just go together so well!! Do you know I never write on my calendars?? I have 3 Labrador calendars, a Doctor Who and a friend's African Holiday one and I just can't bear to write on them. Very weird!!!
