My cousin is due to give birth to her third child in September, and even though I have strongly maintained she's having another girl, now as the delivery draws closer, I seem to keep being steered towards "boy" patterns...
I have an unexplained knack when it comes to tipping an unborn's gender - call it intuition, gut instinct, lucky guess, whatever, so the sudden shift has me wondering?
Regardless of the outcome in September, I thought it wouldn't hurt to have a few more baby knits in the cupboard as back-ups. And so, inspired by this heartbreakingly sweet little fair isle vest, and a recent viewing of The Water Horse (think WWII Scotland: lots of laddies in short pants and very air-force-like vests, all set to a backdrop of moody lock's and moors), I put this together...
so-named because of the stitch pattern's name - Speckle Rib IV, and it just seemed to fit.
It's a very simple little boy's vest, designed for 6-12months, with both shoulders opening with double buttons, for ease.
Using stash wool (yay!), I really love the way the red pops against the khaki and slate grey...
The back is solid khaki with contrast bands...
now, what's the bet she has another girl?!

Wow! This is just gorgeous.
And suitable for a boy or girl, I reckon.
Any youngen would be lucky to have it.
Oh, that's just adorable! Can you get him (if it is a him) some corduroy trousers and a checked shirt to go with it?!
So sweet!! Love the colours and the very cute buttoned shoulders!!
I love it and the colors go so well together. The Water Horse was a great movie to watch wasnt it.
Twins perhaps?
You are right, the red works so well with the olive and blue. And if I had a baby girl, I would totally put her in this vest (perhaps only partly because I'm the unofficial president of the unofficial "Say no to pink" club!!)
So gorgeous - and non=gender specific - and lovely!!!!
Try sticking it over a purply top if girl!
Sweet wee vest. I love the colors together, the pattern is fun, and the buttons are oh so handy with squirmy babies - great design!
P.S. Water Horse is added to my Netflix queue.
